Olympics: Senegal 2-Uruguay 0

Olympics: Senegal 2-Uruguay 0
Watch the highlights of Senegal's Olympic team's victory over Uruguay yesterday in Group A. A brace from Maccabi Tel Aviv's Moussa Konate was enough. The Senegalese team need to improve on their tackling though, which is crude at times ( they finished the game with 10 men yesterday as Abdoulaye Ba saw red in the 33rd min) The crowd warmed up to their exciting attacking play and they sure did Africa proud yesterday. They should quaify for the knockout stages, by avoiding defeat against UAE, in their last group match

London 2012-Heroes:Ye & Sarah

London 2012-Heroes:Ye & Sarah

Remember this name, Ye Shiwen-this Chinese 16-year old absolutely destroyed the field in the final of the women's 400m individual Medley today-taking Gold in a new World record time of  4:28:43. Awesome!

Sarah Menezes of Brazil-the first Brazilian woman to win an individual gold medal at any Olympics! She won in the under 48kg class on Saturday-defeating reigning champion, Alina Dumitru in the gold medal fight. Her life story is awesome as her parents did not initially encourage her to take up the sport. Incredible!

Olympic memories: Cathy Freeman's win-more than just Gold

Olympic memories: Cathy Freeman's win-more than just Gold

Who can forget how an entire Nation willed this amazing Australian Aborigine to victory on home soil in the 400m in Sydney 2000? It was enormous pressure for one person but she coped well, or so we thought at the time! The Olympics-more than just about Sports!

NB: American Sanya Richards-Ross should win this race in London this year. I think she has overcome that irritating penchant to 'choke' on the big occasions. Otherwise defending champ, GB's Christine Ohuruogu or the Russian, Natalya Antyukh-who has the best time this year-may show her up!

What's all the rave about Oscar?

What's all the rave about Oscar?

Oscar dos Santos -member of the Brazilian U-23 team competing for glory at the London 2012 Olympics. He has been a rave in Brazil before now but only caught the eye of European scouts after a scintillating hat-trick in the final of the 2011 U-20 FIFA World Cup-Brazil came from behind to defeat Portugal 3-2, in that game.
The Youtube clip below gives you an idea of how highly rated this chap is. The midfielder is said to have a great ability to pass, move, receive and provide. Puer est bonum (that's Latin for 'the boy is good'!) He has completed a medical at Chelsea FC (deal rumored to be worth £25 million) but is differing his final decision until after the Olympic games. Abramovich is building a dynasty at Chelsea with the signing of young players, 21 years or less, recently .The 20-year old Oscar fits this bill

Race of the Century- Athens 200m freestyle final

Race of the Century- Athens 200m freestyle final
Still in keeping with the great anticipation for the London Olympics starting in 6 days time, I'd like to take you on a trip down memory memory lane. Setting: Athens Olympics 2004. Event: Final of the 200m Freestyle(Men) This was dubbed the Race of the Century! and it was possibly the greatest swimming race ever as it featured the 4 fastest swimmers in that event at the time. Australians Ian Thorpe(Thorpedo) and Grant Hackett, Holland's Pieter van den Hoogenband and USA's Michael Phelps. Thorpe was defending the title he won 4 years earlier, Phelps was on a mission to accomplish 7 gold medals at one competition, van den Hoogenband was the 100m world record holder. Thorpe won in an Olympic record time of 1:44;71, with van den Hoogenband clinching the silver and Phelps getting the bronze. Great race!

Olympic Fever: Blessing Okagbare-taking big scalps!

Olympic Fever: Blessing Okagbare-taking big scalps!
Can Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare take her current fine form in the 100m into the Olympics starting next week? Make that a yes from me! Within a few days she has taking big scalps in the top event of the games-first at the London Grand Prix (July 14), and again this evening, at the Monaco Diamond League. She won today's race in a personal best time of 10.96secs! Talk about peaking at the right time! Go Blessing, Nigeria is proud of you!

I dont know what your thoughts are on the Second Amendment and I'm no expert on American tradition and history. But there are too many crazy people in society these days! Surely something has to be done about the right to bear Arms in contemporary America!

Olympic Fever- Women 10000m, Tirunesh Dibaba

Olympic Fever- Women 10000m- Tirunesh Dibaba
Put your money on this Ethiopian superstar in the 10000m next month (even though she has had a torrid time with injuries since 2008) Arguably the fastest finisher in the history of women's distance running-earning her the nickname 'Baby-faced Destroyer'. She is the defending champion in both the 5000m and 10000m but may just be only to defend her 10000m title at the London Olympics-as the Ethiopian Federation have gone with 2012 times alone in picking the 3 athletes for each slot (Tirunesh's time in the 5000m is only 4th fastest this year-because of her long recuperation from injury) This decision is not widely popular (rightly so in my opinion) Watch a clip of how she 'destroys' a field below

Haye stops Chisora in 5th round

Haye stops Chisora in 5th round

This was the grudge match with genesis in a brawl, 5 months ago-after Chisora lost to Vitali Klitschko
Haye's explosive hand speed was all it took to see off the heavier but sluggish Chisora. The bout was very unpopular among the boxing authorities because of the disgraceful antecedents. but the 30000 capacity Upton Park Arena was sold out anyway. Haye won and that's that!

The Amazing Spider Man

The Amazing Spider Man

Saw the flick today-a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. It looks at the story from a slightly different angle and is quite relatable. Decent effort with Andrew Garfield as Spider Man this time, and Emma Stone cast as Gwen Stacy-his love interest.  Worth watching.

Wimbledon Men's Semi final-Vintage Federer!

Wimbledon Men's Semi final-Vintage Federer!
Roger Federer advanced to his eight Wimbledon final by beating world No 1, Novak Djokovic-6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was a masterclass performance by the greatest of all time tennis player (GOAT) in my opinion. He barely broke sweat in beating the World number 1.  Federer has now won 8 out of 8 Wimbledon semifinals, reached his 24th Grand slam final and 8th Wimbledon final-a record! What an Athlete!
If he wins on Sunday, he'll become No 1 again. The eulogies have continued to flow on Twitter-example: Oh Tennis, your beauty is safe in the hands of Roger Federer!!
Couldn't have said it better!

Higgs 'God' Particle

Higgs 'God' Particle

You've got to doff your hat at the intelligence of people like Peter Higgs, Professor Emeritus of Physics University of Edinburgh.

In 1964:

'.....At Edinburgh Higgs first became interested in mass, developing the idea that particles were massless when the universe began, acquiring mass a fraction of a second later as a result of interacting with a theoretical field (which became known as the Higgs Fi).  Higgs postulated that this field permeates space, giving all elementary subatomic particles that interact with it their mass'
Of course, Higgs couldn't prove this then. But today, 48 years later, news reveal that CERN scientists at the Large Hadron Collider. (LHC) have claimed the discovery of a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson-the so-called 'God' particle
Try taking the next Nobel prize in Physics from this amazing man!!

Euro 2012-Spain retains title

Euro 2012-Spain retains title

Spain retained their Euro title yesterday with an emphatic thumping of hapless Italy. It was a performance of sheer masterclass as the Spanish lived up to their name: La Furia Roja ( The Red Fury) It was as though they felt irritated by all the 'boring play' criticisms of the last 2 weeks and they came out with guns blazing! All their big stars- Xavi, Fabregas, David Silva and, man of the match, Iniesta performed on the night. The Italians had no chance. They also made history by being the first team to win 3 consecutive major titles-the Euros in '08, the World Cup in 2010 and now this! Watch highlights of the match below
