Of Chris Hughton, Football's Racism & the Rooney Rule
Chris Hughton was sacked as the Manager of EPL's Norwich City last night
To deny that there is institutional racism at the Managerial level in football is to bury one's head in the sand like the proverbial Ostrich.
According to Andi Thomas & Alexander Netherton of football365.com, it's time for the Rooney Rule in football
I agree!!
Hughton as Newcastle Manager:
''..Following a 3–1 defeat at West Brom in December (2010), Hughton became the first Premier League manager of the 2010–11 season to lose his job, as he was dismissed by Managing Director Derek Llambias. The decision was ill received by the players and the supporters, with veteran defender Sol Campbell claiming that the decision "makes no sense..."
Newcastle were in mid table at the time! *surprised*
There's a justification for this current sacking.....Just! Norwich were 5 points and 1 place above the relegation zone.
I loved the last bit of the article I referred to above:
''..Next time a job comes up behind the scenes at any football club, you have to guarantee a person of colour is interviewed. Next time a managerial job comes up, you have to guarantee a person of colour is interviewed.
And lastly, the next time a white person thinks about chipping in on problems of institutionalised racism in football to deny it's a problem, suddenly becomes an expert in Rioplatense Spanish to defend Luis Suarez, or chants at Anton Ferdinand that he knows what he is, or decides that the quenelle is just a way of showing support for an anti-Semitic comedian, they have their laptop and phone taken away until there is fair representation in football..''
Cosigned!!
