Chelsea 2- Fulham 0, Mikel Scores

Chelsea 2- Fulham 0, Mikel Scores

Four words to describe this poor game: Mikel Scored A Goal!

Jose Mourinho: “I came back for Mikel Obi To Score Goals” ( It's A Joke, y'all! )

Back four today were -Ivanovic , Cahill , Terry , Cole , pivot -Ramires , Mikel , band of 3 Schurrle , Oscar , Hazard while Eto'o led the line

-Mourinho deeming Juan Mata not even worthy of a place on the substitutes' bench!

Positives - 3 points in the bag, top of the table

Why our rivals should be afraid: this Chelsea team is currently playing uninspiring football but still at the summit of the EPL or in touching distance. It's going to get better. It simply has to with the quality of players in this team.

Surely a team containing Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle & Ramires with Mata & Willian in reserve can't continue to be boring to watch every week!

This team is still not playing to its potentials

The match:

We were fortunate not to be a goal down at the interval as Darren Bent spurned the opportunity to give Fulham an early lead.

The first half and a large chunk of the second half was the story of our season so far- slow build up from the back, too many sideways pass, all motion,no movement, poor execution in the box, poor final pass, getting turned over frequently resulting in dangerous counter attacks against us

Abramovich wasn't too pleased in the stands

Summary: A lot of huffing and puffing, and a whole lot of nothing in the first half. Marginally better in the second

Oscar got the opener in the second half after the Fulham goalie spilled a Schurlle cross, giving Eto'o a lucky bite of the cherry- this was blocked. But the ball fell kindly for Oscar who slotted home

A word on Oscar:

Mourinho has come out to say Oscar is his No 10

Oscar is a good player but he has nothing on Mata

Oscar’s ability to control a pass is orders of magnitude worse than Juan Mata's – the ball just seems to stick to Mata’s foot no matter how hard/bad the pass was.

Oscar is a better grafter though

Mourinho- please don't let me start hating Oscar 'cos of your refusal to play Mata!

The Jury is still out on Andre Schurrle ( who was replacing Mata in this team) You can't fault his effort though and he had great assist stats today- he created 7 chances- 4 more than any other player

The Man of the Moment:

His name is Mikel!

He scores when he wants

He scores when he waaaaaants

John Obi Mikel, he rarely wants to score!!

On Chelsea's 13th corner of the match, the moment arrived!

A corner, an assist by John Terry ( header) a half volley by Mikel: The net shook. Goal!!

Mikel has scored more than Gerrard, Coutinho, Schürrle, Santi, Torres, Theo, Defoe, Fellaini, Mata, Hazard & KDB in the league this season.

Mikel has scored more goals than all our strikers combined!!

Eto'o : fired blanks again. Not blaming him though. The way Chelsea plays at the moment, chances are a premium for our strikers. He was replaced by Torres midway in the second half

Hazard- Nothing has changed (in his poor form) all season

Frank Lampard comes on for Chelsea on 80 mins, replacing Andre Schurrle, while De Bruyne had a few minutes too- replacing Hazard

It's hardly been an ideal start to the season. But for now, Chelsea are top of the table....and....and John Obi Mikel has found his way onto the scoresheet!!

That, I think, calls for some smiles.

John Obi Mikel scored the goal that secured top spot in the Premier League for Chelsea!!!!

Mental. Absolutely mental!!

Football-This week in songs

Chelsea

These are difficult times at The Bridge. What with back to back losses

A lot has already been said though. Lag aka- says 'Coolu temper' to the angry faithfuls.

In the wise words of Patrick Swayze: "It will get worse before it gets better"

The faithfuls hope it starts getting better against Fulham today

Majek Fashek says "Redemption ( song)" starts today

Arsenal

Arsenal have made it a club record 10 straight away wins with a 2-1 victory over Marseille. Goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey were enough.

Ramsey is going through a Purple patch at these days. 'Rambo' on the Rampage. MC Hammer says : " You Can't Touch This"

Arsenal fans echo this.

Gone are the days when a prominent figure dies each time he scores!...err not quite. Ken Norton ( who famously broke Mohammed Ali's jaw ) died 3 days ago!!. Arsenal welcomes Stoke City on Sunday

Man Utd

Rooney is happy again and playing well- A good thing for Man Utd. However some of us had that feeling that he was somebody out to prove a point in the last match- he felt RVP stole his thunder and he wanted it back.

He had this song: "Steal Your Thunder" in mind-

It appears as if RVP was singing Mariah Carey's song to Rooney in return: "Why are you so obsessed with me?"

Utd fans scoff: Nothing there!

They refer us to Pope's song and say: Chill y'all " E Farabale"

Hmmm....watch this space!

Man Utd visits the Etihad this weekend in what promises to be a mouth-watering encounter!

Man City

Goals from Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero in a ten minute blitz at the start of the second half ( against Pizen) saw City move level at the top of their CL group and sets them up nicely for the match at OT this weekend. David Silva and Gael Clichy are still fitness doubts for the derby- this weekend

Aguero feels he should have something to say again. He was brilliant on Tuesday. Dagrin says Utd will chop "Kondo" at the Etihad on Sunday

Liverpool

With Liverpool off to a fine start, manager Brendan Rodgers leap frogged over his usual talk of Top Four and went straight into a tilt for the title. Oh, well -"Always aim for winning the league; even if you miss, you'll land among the Top Four.”-

Old football proverb, probably

Apparently Rodgers was seen with head phones at the training ground listening to: Brandy ( ft Mase)- 'Sitting on top of the world'

They've had a really good start, got great results in 4 tough games, and the consistency and resilience-that was missing last season-appears to be present now. Coutinho's creativity will be missed though, but Suarez should be back with a bite...err..bang against Man Utd in the COcup

In the league, the Kop welcomes Southampton this weekend.

Real Madrid

CR7 showed he's still the top dawg at Real with a new contract and a hat trick against Galatasaray (- his third goal was pure joy!).

Eldee says: He's a "Big Boy"

Even Benzema got a rare brace these days! Still early days but Isco is proving to be the buy of the season for Real. ( a fully fit Gareth Bale might have a thing or 2 to say about that! )

Isco set things rolling again with a goal in Turkey. Perhaps Ozil won't be missed afterall. Marcelo is still injured, Varane and Coentrao rejoin the squad for Getafe. Bale should start too

Barcelona

Messi, Ha! This dude has not let CR7 get 24 hours in the spotlight like.......forever, really!

It's like he's always telling CR7 : "Hit me with your best shot"

Oh well, CR7 retorts: " Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me??" Pussycat Dolls

Victor Valdes' fine form continues and he has had more MoTM Performances than Messi this season . To think the dude is nearing the end of his contract with the club

Isco or Neymar? It's a no brainer really. Right now Isco is the better value for money buy. Barca travel to Rayo Vallecano ( to hand them the expected 4-0 drubbing) this weekend

Swansea

Special mention to Swansea who played like 'Like A Boss' at Valencia yesterday.

Slim Thug would be proud!

They visit Crystal Palace on Sunday

Ozymandias

Ozymandias

Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 14-Ozymandias

It's all unravelling for Walt - losing everything, including the family he'll do anything to protect

Ozymandias is a poem by Percy Shelley- the central theme is the inevitable decline of all leaders, all empires they build, however mighty in their own time. 'Nuff said!

Read this brilliant review of this episode here: link

If you're not watching Breaking Bad, I don't know where your life is heading ( I doubt it is the right direction though! )

Football-This week in songs

Football-This week in songs

Chelsea-Hazard injured his hamstring in training while with the Belgian squad but. Should be fit for the trip to Everton. Mata should play and new boys, Eto'o and Willian, should see action too. Spurs are still upset, Willian continues to troll; Dbanj says: "blame it on the money"

Arsenal- Rosicky is missing this weekend ( thigh strain), Giroud should be wrapped in wool (with Podolski still out) but their Faithfuls eagerly anticipate the debut of the Gunnersaurus (aka Ozil ) vs Sunderland. Sisqo says: "unleash the dragon" :-)

Man Utd- there's a mouth-watering Nike deal in the offing. Some of their fans still continue to do damage limitation after the poor showing in the transfer window. but we say "Habatically" and P-Square say: "Personally" we don't care, we just want to see what Fellaini brings to the team-against Crystal Palace

Liverpool- their defence has to be at its brilliant best if they want to keep their clean sheet record against Swansea. Toure and Skrtel should be the CB pairing. Sturridge is still a doubt and they may struggle in front. New boy, Victor Moses, should add more threat though. Some of us think things may start unravelling soon but their fans say 'na lie' and Kcee wants Swansea to be their maga

Man City- Silva will miss the Stoke game. He's out till October ( joins Kompany and Demichelis on the crocked list) To the soccer gods Burna boy says " Abeg, Abeg, Abeg" (on behalf of City)

Real Madrid- CR7 and Isco have rejoined the squad after recovering from minor injuries. Coentrao, Marcelo and Varane will miss the match against Villareal ( injuries) It has to be about Bale's debut this weekend though. Eminem says: he's "Not Afraid" sha :-)

Barcelona- Busquet rejoins the team after injury. Neymar was imperious for Brazil and everyone is expecting him to bring this form to Barcelona against Sevilla. Destiny's Child quips: It's only a matter of time before Barca fans start " Saying his name"
