Remember him?- Mattias Sammer

Remember him?- Mattias Sammer

Remember those trademark lung-bursting runs from defence to attack in Germany's triumphant campaign at Euro '96?

Ottmar Hitzfeld converted him to Libero( sweeper) at Dortmund and he never looked back

Sammer was named German Footballer of the Year in both 1995 and 1996, he was named Player of the Tournament in Euro '96, was named European Footballer of the Year in 1996, making him the first defender to win the Ballon d'Or since Franz Beckenbauer in 1972.

The pic frame shows the clubs he played for in chronological order:

Dynamo Dresden ( East Germany) '85-89

Stuttgart '90-92

Inter Milan - 92-93

Dortmund- '93-98

Check out this YouTube clip below for both of his goals at the Euro '96 tournament. There are other fine players spotlighted in the clip

( Some of the Jerseys were pure joy at that Tournament too )

Mattias Sammer= Player!
